The project <Urban Palette> Chapter 1. Flaneur starts with artist Yihwa Kim's contemplation on settling in a city as an artist, given her frequent relocations. It aims to shed light on the various minority groups being displaced in the city and the forms of these processes. For Kim, today's Mullae-dong and Brixton represent modern spectacles. As such, rather than lingering on them from a Badaud perspective, she intends to meticulously observe and contemplate these two cities from a Flaneur perspective. Her work is primarily based on video recordings, integrating her subjective and artistic views and interpretations with the relatively objective perspectives of her collaborators Jae Min Lee, Jiwon Chae, and In Jung. At this stage, she simply enjoys the act of walking, exploring the neighbourhoods with a curious eye. Through this Flaneur-like exploration, the project highlights the phenomena occurring in the two cities where gentrification is actively taking place, triggering curiosity and imagination about the psychological relationships between the communities and individuals within them.
